Nail Technology Qualification Overview

This is a vocational VTCT qualification and includes all the required elements to work effectively as a nail technician. The structure of this VTCT qualification provides you with the flexibility to develop your knowledge, understanding and skills required to become a nail technician. By the end of the course you will have obtained the skill set and knowledge, along with a recognised qualification. Enabling you to work in a variety of environments, such as, salon employee, salon owner, mobile, cruise ships.

You will need to be 19+ to take the course.

Who is it for?

This course is for those looking to start a career in the beauty industry, specialising in nail technology; and it is also great for anyone who’s previously completed a short course and would like to enhance their current qualification.

What will I learn?

Throughout this qualification you will develop your knowledge and understanding of nail products and equipment. As well as, the relevant anatomy and physiology, health and safety and client care. You will develop a range of technical skills enabling you to provide a variety of nail enhancement treatments using different techniques. Alongside this, you will also develop interpersonal skills that will assist you to communicate effectively with clients.

You will study modules covering:

Providing manicure and pedicure treatments
Applying and maintaining nail enhancements
Client care and communication in beauty-related industries
Monitor and maintain health and safety practice in the salon
Maintaining personal health and well-being
Enhance nails using electric files
Display stock to promote sales in a salon
Promote products and services to clients in a salon
Design and apply nail art

How will I learn?

The qualification is delivered through a blended learning approach – a combination of traditional classroom teaching (face-to-face) and online learning/independent study.

Classroom – full-day sessions to begin each unit

Independent study, reading and research with remote tutor support – recommended self-study of 10 hours per week

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed through a combination of practical assessments, multiple choice theory exams, evidence portfolio and workbook. Learners are required to source their own clients/models for practical assessments during course times. 90% attendance is required to pass the course due to the intensity & course length. Therefore, if you miss days of the course without catching up, you will not be awarded with the qualification.
