Qualification Overview

The VTCT Diploma in Make-up Artistry is a substantial vocational qualification. It will prepare you for a career as a make-up artist. This VTCT qualification is not only recognised nationally but also internationally, enabling you to work in salons, department stores, media, photography and freelance make-up artist.

Am I Eligible?
You will need to be 19+ to take the course.
Who is it for?
For those looking to start a career in the makeup industry, specialising in make-up artistry. This course covers everything from day to day makeup, glam, special effects, airbrush makeup, and camouflage makeup.

We are also able to offer progression onto:

  • Level 3 Beauty General
  • Level 4 Salon Management
What will I learn?
The course is comprised of 10 mandatory units. They will cover the necessary practical and theoretical skills to provide a wide range of make-up techniques and styles.

  • Health and safety practice in a salon (included in pre-course reading and assignment pack)
  • Client Care and communication in beauty-related industries (included in pre-course reading and assignment pack)
  • Application of fashion and photographic make-up, including creating and adapting a design plan, using products, tools and techniques to meet the design plan. Plus, using black and white and colour, and working to a budget.
  • Media make-up (creating different characters, ageing techniques & casualty effects)
  • Face and body art using a variety of tools and techniques
  • Application of all make-up products – including recognition of face shapes and corrective makeup
  • Instruction of all make-up products – including recognition of face shapes and corrective makeup
  • Application of camouflage make-up (using & blending products to cover tattoos, scarring etc
  • Display stock in a salon
  • Promote products and services to clients in a salon
How will I learn?
The qualification is delivered through a blended learning approach – a combination of traditional classroom teaching (face-to-face) and online learning/independent study.
  • Classroom – full-day sessions to begin each unit
  • Independent study, reading and research with remote tutor support – recommended self-study of 8/10 hours per week
  • How will I be assessed?
    You will be assessed through a combination of practical assessments, multiple choice theory exams, evidence portfolio and workbook. 90% attendance is required to pass the course due to the intensity and course length. Therefore, missing days of course without catching up may result in failure to pass the qualification.
